Donovans is a little business. A bunch of very down-to-earth locals in the Waikato, batch-making their chocolates, fudges and nougats, and busily concocting be-ribboned gift boxes for sale at their café in Pukete. Their story made us want to give them an identity that felt as human as their business. And therefore just a little imperfect, a little wonky even. Because there is something far more alluring about the imperfectly shaped treat – it has care, love and labour written all over it. That’s something an extruded, mechanical one never has. You can see it in their logo where none of the letters seem to quite line up. And in the little hills picture, which looks like it was laboured over by one of their team armed with an old wooden ruler and a fancy ink pen. Hands down more delicious.
